15 uncommonly used Filipino words

There are a lot of Filipino words that exist, but because the individuals barely use them, so we don’t hear them quite often and become unfamiliar with the words. So here are 15 uncommonly used Filipino words with their meaning and an example.



  • Pook-sapot

ENGLISH WORD: Website

def. A place on the World Wide Web that contains information about a person, organization, etc., and that usually consists of many Web pages joined by hyperlinks.

example: Ang pook-sapot ng Google ay google.com.


  • Ilaya



ENGLISH WORD: Farm

def. An area of land that is devoted primarily to agricultural processes with the primary objective of producing food and other crops; it is the basic facility in food production.

example: Sariwa ang hangin dito sa Ilaya.

  • Anluwage


ENGLISH WORD: Carpenter

def. A person whose job is to make or fix wooden objects or wooden parts of buildings.

example: Ang isang lalake ay nag anluwage ng kanya bahay.

  • Kalantare


ENGLISH WORD: Flirting

def. Is a social and sometimes sexual activity involving verbal or written communication as well as body language by one person to another, either to suggest interest in a deeper relationship with the other person or if done playfully, for amusement.

example: Akala mo true love na, yun pala kalantare ka lang niya.

  • Duyog


ENGLISH WORD: Eclipse

def. The total or partial obscuring of one celestial body by another.

example: Ang mukha ng buwan ngayong gabi ay nakaduyog.

  • Adhika


ENGLISH WORD: Want

def. Have a desire to possess or do something.

example: Isang bagong telepono ang aking adhika ngayong pasko.

  • Miktinig


ENGLISH WORD: Microphone

def. An instrument whereby sound waves are caused to generate or modulate an electric current usually for the purpose of transmitting or recording sound. done playfully, for amusement.

example: Habang kumakanta ang dalaga, kumuha siya ng suklay at ginawang miktinig.

  • Pang-ulong Hatinig


ENGLISH WORD: Headphones

def. A device that holds an earphone and a microphone in place on a person’s head.

example: Suot suot niya ang kanyang pang ulong hatinig tuwing bumabyahe.

  • Butsaka


ENGLISH WORD: Pocket

def. A small bag sewn into or on clothing so as to form part of it, used for carrying small articles.

example: Siniksik niya ang pera sa butsaka ng kanyang pantalon para ito ay hindi mawala.

def. Not level, straight, or smooth

example: Tignan mo, salimbatok ang kulay ng tuhod niya.
